When I really got down to it, though, I found a great explanation for the scars, especially the horrific ones that you are going to see now that summer is on the way. Furthermore, the knowledge of what causes the scars has implications for everyone.

[BTW my parents' generation does have scars on their upper arms from inoculation so the vaccination program must have stopped around 1970 in Canada. I was born in that year. I don't have the scar.]

Dr Nik Omar, Perjuang Homeopathy di Malaysia

Pada awal tahun 1960-an, tidak ramai orang Melayu mahupun masyarakat di Tanah Melayu yang mengenali apakah itu sistem perubatan homeopati.


Walaupun yang tahu hanyalah segelintir ahli keluarga atau sahabat-sahabat Allayarham Ustaz Burhanuddin Helmy yang memperkenalkan sistem perubatan ini dikalangan sahabat handainya di Malaya.


Setelah Ustaz Burhanuddin meninggal, homeopati tidak lagi begitu dikenali sehinggalah munculnya seorang lagi anak Melayu yang sanggup meninggalkan tanah air, semata-mata untuk menuntut ilmu perubatan homeopati di Pakistan.


Pada awal tahun 1970 seorang anak muda darti Kelantan yang bernama Nik Omar bin Nik Daud telah meninggalkan tanah air untuk menimba ilmu perubatan homeopati ini di Pakistan Homeopathic Medical College and Homeopathic Trust Hospital, di Lahore, Pakistan.


Sebaik tamat pengajian kedoktoran homeopati pada tahun 1975 Dr Nik Omar, tidak pulang ke Tanah Air malah terus melanjutkan pendidikannya ke London Foot Hospital, Universiti Kolej London, UK.

Pada tahun 1977 beliau kembali ke tanah air dan memulakan kerjayanya yang pertama dalam jurusan perubatan altenatif iaitu homeopati.


Pada tahun 1979 beliau mendirikan sebuah kolej perubatan homeopati, Fakulti Perubatan Homeopati Malaysia (rujuk http://www.homeopathymalaysia.org.my


Pada tahun 1980 beliau menubuhkan unit Pasukan Sukarelawan Homeopati Malaysia dan pada tahun 1984 beliau menubuhkan Persatuan Pengamal Perubatan Homeopati Berdaftar Malaysia.


Dari tahun 1977 hingga 2000 banyak perkembangan dalam sistem pendidikan homeopati dan perubatan homeopati telah dilakukan oleh beliau. Dalam perkembangan ini beliau telah banyak melakukan semua aktibiti kemasyarakatan termasuk khidmat bakti sukarela, memberi ceramah kesihatan di sekolah, maktab, universiti, di Radio dan TV Malaysia dan luar negara.


Beliau juga menulis lebih dari 400 rencana perubatan khusunya dalam jurusan perubatan alternatif homeopati, akupunktur, bekam, perubatan Melayu dan lain-lain.
Selain dari memegang beberapa jawatan penting dalam homeopathy beliau juga merupakan
1. Pengerusi fakulti Perubatan Homeopathy Malaysia sejak tahun 1979 hingga sekarang
2. Presiden pesatuan pengamal perubatan Homeopathy Berdaftar Malaysia - MRHP dari tahun 1984 hingga sekarang.

Sexuality in Chinese medicine – a general introduction

Strange as it may be, one can seldom encounter discussions and articles dealing directly with sexuality in the realms of prevalent contemporary acupuncture and Chinese medicine literature. In the ancient Chinese world, sexuality was definitely considered a major topic within the framework of general health-care, so much so that it won a respected canon of its own. This canon, the Su Nu Jing, was compiled probably several centuries B.C.E, of five volumes, in a very similar literary style as the famous “Huang Di nei Jing” – the Yellow Emperor’s canon of internal medicine. 1

In these five volumes all aspects of sexuality were discussed practically (and depicted), with a significant bias to the influence of our sex-life on health, and vice-versa. Consistent with Chinese medical tradition on other issues as well, later generations throughout Chinese history, have contributed a huge mass of commentary and interpretation to the text of the Su Nu Jing. This commentary has served mainly to integrate the ideas and techniques described in the Su Nu Jing, with the philosophy and concepts that form Chinese medicine.

In this article, I have chosen a case of a young woman, whom I treated a year ago for a complicated sexual dysfunction. Such cases are not very frequently encountered in the acupuncture clinics in the west, or east for that matter, despite their probable high occurrences in the population. This is due both to cultural limitations, as well as personal psychological inhibitions.

Sexuality, as is well known to any health-care practitioner, resides in the deepest nook of most people’s souls, much as the organs involved with the sexual act itself.

The case of this young woman, Dana for this article, involves two interesting aspects:

1. Involvement of extraordinary vessel in her pathology, plus other energetic mechanisms that have clear linkage with the aetiology of her dysfunction.
2. A unique treatment technique, also not frequently applied in routine acupuncture practice.

Autism Can Be Treated

Autism is a severe developmental disorder that begins at birth or within the first two-and-a-half years of life. Most autistic children are perfectly normal in appearance, but spend their time engaged in puzzling and disturbing behaviors which are markedly different from those of typical children. Less severe cases may be diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or with Asperger's Syndrome (these children typically have normal speech, but they have many "autistic" social and behavioral problems).

It used to be thought that autism is just a fate that you accept.The good news is that there are now a wide variety of treatment options which can be very helpful. Some treatments may lead to great improvement, and others may have little or no effect, but a good starting point would be the parent ratings of biomedical interventions, which presents the responses of over 25,000 parents in showing the effectiveness of various interventions on their own child.

How Common is it? For many years autism was rare - occurring in just five children per 10,000 live births. However, since the early 1990's, the rate of autism has increased exponentially around the world with figures as high as 60 per 10,000. Boys outnumber girls four to one. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 110 children is diagnosed with an ASD.

What is the Outlook? Age at intervention has a direct impact on outcome--typically, the earlier a child is treated, the better the prognosis will be. In recent years there has been a marked increase in the percentage of children who can attend school in a typical classroom and live semi-independently in community settings. However, the majority of autistic persons remain impaired in their ability to communicate and socialize.

• Life expectancy for people with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent decades - from 25 in 1983 to 60 today.

• People with Down syndrome attend school, work, participate in decisions that affect them, and contribute to society in many wonderful ways.

• All people with Down syndrome experience cognitive delays, but the effect is usually mild to moderate and is not indicative of the many strengths and talents that each individual possesses.

• Quality educational programs, a stimulating home environment, good health care, and positive support from family, friends and the community enable people with Down syndrome to develop their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

Treatment of 122 Cases of Paralysis by Selecting Points According to The Function of Muscle Group and Spinal Segment.

We have treated 122 cases of paraplegia, hemiplegia and pathological paralysis with marked result by acupuncture treatment according to the anatomic site of spinal injury and principle of paralytic muscle group controlled by certain nerves.
1. Principle of point selecting

i) Paraplegia:
a) Puncture one point on the insensitive area on both sides respectively 5cm away from the middle of spine.
b) Select any 2 - 3 sensitive points from Ren channel to below the umbilicus and Foot Yang-ming channel of lower limbs
c) For injury in 5 - 7 segment of cervical area, select point from Hand Tai-yin and Hand Yang- ming channel on the radial side of upper limbs; for injury in the area from cervical to to thoracic 2, select points from Hand Shao-yin and Hand Taiyang Channels on the ulna side of upper limbs.

ii) Hemiplegia :
a) Fengchi ( GB 20) , Fengfu (DU 16 ) and Tazhui ( DU 14 )
b) For case of extensor-flexor muscle disturbance, select the corresponding points from three Yin and three Yang channel of upper and lower limbs.
c) Pathological paralysis, select points according to the muscle group of disease and injury.

Method.

a) Electric stimulation must be applied to all the points selected according to spinal segment , the stimulation for spastic paralysis should be strong with short duration of time while that for flaccid paralysis should be opposite.
b) Tap with plum blossom needles until bleeding
c) Tap with bamboo chopsticks until the skin become deep red.

Therapeutic Effect.

67 cases of paraplegia caused by external injury were treated with the curative rate of 88.66 % while that of 74.36 % was for 39 cases of hemiplegia and 75 % for 16 cases of pathological paralysis.

A patient by the name of Johari 50 years old gentleman, came to our clinic with the complaint of Brain Tomour.

This was confirmed by one of the hospital at Kota Bharu, through scanning. The patient was a hopeless case, who were unconscious / coma for 4 days before admitted at our center. The allopathic specialist had told the patient that the disease is very serious and threaten the patient’s life. The specialist advised operation, because so far there is not medication for such disease.

The patient asked the doctor the chances for operation, which the doctor’s told him that it was 20 - 80.
The patient for operation and came for our treatment.
After taking all the necessary history of the patients, I have suggested to gave the patient
Hegu, Quichi along with Sishencong and supplied the patient with homeopathic medications of Conium 30 c, b.i.d. for 2 weeks.
After two weeks the patient came back with much improved. Headache is much better, vision is improved, appetite back to normal. After one months of treatment the patient did not have any pain at all, severe headache, dizziness and vertigo had gone with acupuncture needle.
The patient went back to previous hospital where the specialist astonished and did not belief that the patient is smiling in front of him. After brief checkup the patient were asked to go back and rest and the doctor told him that he is alright and no need to come to hospital again.
