Sciatica & Acupuncture Treatment @ Low Back Pain

Pain Management and Sciatica

Sciatica is a common type of pain affecting the sciatic nerve, a large nerve extending from the lower back down the back of each leg.
What Are the Symptoms of Sciatica?

Common symptoms of sciatica include:

Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting
Burning or tingling down the leg
Weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot
A constant pain on one side of the rear
A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up

Sciatica usually affects only one side of the lower body. Often, the pain extends from the lower back all the way through the back of the thigh and down through the leg. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also extend to the foot or toes.

For some people, the pain from sciatica can be severe and debilitating. For others, the pain from sciatica might be infrequent and irritating, but has the potential to get worse.

Seek immediate medical attention with any symptoms of progressive lower extremity weakness and/or loss of bladder or bowel control.
What Causes Sciatica?

Sciatica is caused by irritation of the root(s) of the lower lumbar and lumbosacral spine.

Additional common causes of sciatica include:

Lumbar spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back)
Degenerative disc disease (breakdown of discs, which act as cushions between the vertebrae)
Spondylolisthesis (a condition in which one vertebra slips forward over another one)

Other things that may make your back pain worse include being overweight, not exercising regularly, wearing high heels, or sleeping on a mattress that is too soft.

Women at Higher Risk of Kidney Damage After Heart Imaging Test

Women at Higher Risk of Kidney Damage After Heart Imaging Test

Women are at higher risk of developing kidney damage after undergoing a coronary angiogram, according to new findings.

Researchers from Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit, MI, USA) revealed that women are 60% more likely than men to develop radiocontrast-induced nephropathy (RCIN), an adverse side effect that causes kidney dysfunction within 24 to 72 hours after patients are administered an iodine contrast dye during the common heart-imaging test.

This is believed to be the first study in which researchers assessed whether gender was a factor in patients developing RCIN after undergoing a coronary angiogram. RCIN is the third-leading cause of hospital-acquired kidney damage in the United States, after surgery and hypertension. The study’s findings were presented April 27, 2011, at the US National Kidney Foundation’s Spring Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas, NV, USA.

Whereas researchers noted that additional study is needed to explain the gender risk, they hypothesized that a woman’s size may be a factor, according to Javier Neyra, MD, an internal medicine resident at Henry Ford and the study’s lead investigator. “Because men and women patients receive the same amount of dye during a coronary angiogram, it’s possible the amount is just too much for a woman’s body to handle given her smaller size,” Dr. Neyra stated. “Perhaps a woman’s height and weight ought to be factored into the dosage.”

According to Dr. Neyra, the contrast dye may cause the kidney’s blood vessels to narrow, thus causing damage to the organ. He noted that women with a history of heart disease should consult with their physician about undergoing heart-imaging tests using contrast dyes. Contrast dye is used to improve the visibility of internal body structures during an imaging test. In a coronary angiogram, the dye enhances images of the heart’s blood vessels and chambers.

In the Henry Ford study, researchers followed 1,211 patients who received a coronary angiogram from January 2008 to December 2009. Nearly 20% of women developed RCIN compared to 13.6% of men. Dr. Neyra reported that other contributing factors in the gender risk could be age, hormonal levels, and other chronic conditions. “We just don’t know without further study,” he explained.

Allopathic Antidepressants Tablet

Prozac (generic name: fluoxetine; brand names include: Flunil / Fontex / Ladose / Sarafem / Solax) is one of the world's most widely prescribed antidepressants; it has been prescribed for more than 40 million people worldwide.

Prozac was the first of a new class of drugs, called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), to be approved for use in the United States. This new type of medication helps patients with depression by increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain. Scientists believe serotonin affects many types of activity in the brain, including the regulation of mood.

Prozac was initially approved for the treatment of depression in Belgium in 1986 and in the United States in 1987. Since then, it has been approved and marketed in more than 90 countries.

The safety and effectiveness of Prozac have been thoroughly studied in clinical trials with more than 11,000 patients.

Prozac is prescribed for the treatment of depression. The symptoms of major depression may include changes in appetite, sleep habits, and mind/body coordination; decreased sex drive; increased fatigue; feelings of guilt or worthlessness; difficulty concentrating; slowed thinking; and suicidal thoughts.

Prozac is also prescribed to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Prozac is also used in the treatment of bulimia (binge-eating often followed by deliberate vomiting). It has also been used to treat other eating disorders and obesity.

In addition, Prozac is used to treat panic disorder, including panic associated with agoraphobia. People with panic disorder usually suffer from panic attacks - feelings of intense fear that develop suddenly, often for no reason.

Prozac is also indicated for the treatment of pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Prozac exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Prozac usually is taken once or twice a day. To be effective, it should be taken regularly. Make a habit of taking it at the same time you do some other daily activity. The usual starting dose is 20 milligrams per day, taken in the morning. Your doctor may increase your dose after several weeks.

It may take 4 to 5 weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit of Prozac, but the drug's effects should last about 9 months after a 3-month treatment regimen. For obsessive-compulsive disorder, the full effect may take 5 weeks to appear.

Continue to take Prozac even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Prozac without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.

If you miss a dose, take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If several hours have passed, skip the dose. Never try to "catch up" by doubling the dose.

Store this medicine at room temperature, away from heat and light.

Before you start taking Prozac, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you are taking another medicine for depression called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have been taking a MAOI within the last 14 days;
have kidney or liver disease, diabetes, have ever had fits or a tendency to bleed more than normal;
have or have had bipolar disorder;

Muscle Spasms Comparing Modern Drugs and Homeopathic Medicine

Soma (generic name: carisoprodol; brand names include: Carimax / Sanoma / Carisoma) is a muscle relaxant used to treat pain caused by muscle spasms.

It is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions in patients 12 years of age and above.

Soma works to relax the muscles by blocking pain messages sent to the brain. The ingredient Carisoprodol is a pain reliever that changes the way a body senses pain. The onset of action is rapid and lasts four to six hours.

Soma is useful against various types of pain (whether or not related to muscle spasm).

Soma may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

Soma is taken orally. Usually it is taken three times daily and at bedtime and may be taken with or without food. The usual adult dosage of soma is one 350 mg tablet, three times daily and at bedtime.

Usage in patients under age 12 is not recommended. It is recommended that you take Soma with food, or with milk, to minimize the likelihood that you will suffer an upset stomach as a result of taking the medication.

If you forget to take Soma, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Store this medicine at controlled room temperature 20 to 25 C.

The Power of Cialis and Vigra

Cialis and Viagra (generic names: Tadalafil/Sildenafil) are used to treat erectile dysfunction, more commonly known as impotence. A man is impotent if he cannot achieve or sustain an erect penis for sexual activity. Cialis and Viagra are oral treatments for erectile dysfunction.

Unlike previously approved treatments for impotence, Viagra and Cialis do not directly cause penis erection, but affect the response to sexual stimulation. The drugs act by enhancing the smooth muscle relaxation using nitric oxide, a chemical that is normally released in response to sexual stimulation. This smooth muscle relaxation allows increased blood flow into certain areas of the penis leading to an erection.

A single Viagra or Cialis pill will give you up to 36 hours to choose the moment that's right for you.

Be careful They Are Some Side Effect Of This Drugs

Before taking Cialis or Viagra, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you are taking any nitrate-containing drugs; or amyl nitrite;
you have heart, liver, kidney or blood vessel problems; or any disease or deformity of your penis.
